The Vereda do Pico Branco and Terra Chã is within the protected Site of Natura 2000 Network and is the most popular hike in Porto Santo. It is also the most contrasting and the greenest area, which differs from the rocky, earthy colours of the rest of the Island. We will start our walk on the northern part of the island and look at the beautiful valleys of the mountain range. To reach Pico Branco, the third-highest peak of Porto Santo (450 m), we will make a zigzag ascent up a dry, rocky hill and enter a small forest of pines. You will enjoy the incredible coastal views of the lovely bays and rugged cliffs. Later, we will arrive at the summit of Terra Chã, one of the best viewpoints on Porto Santo Island, with stunning views of the coast and the ocean. We will be under a canopy of trees, one of which is a beautiful Dragon Tree! In the distance, we’ll see “Ilhéu de Cima” Islet. Pico Branco and Terra Chã are priority sites that hold endemic species of fauna and flora, some of which are found only here and exclusive to Porto Santo. We will then walk down, following the same pathway. Please note: since this booking requires confirmation, you do not need to pay at checkout.     Non-slip walking boots or sports footwear, a camera, and a coat or a jumper if it gets cooler.

    Take a bag to carry your litter away with you.

    We remind you to have enough reserve of water and food, as there is nothing available on the route.

    A raincoat or poncho if rain is in the forecast and a wind protection coat as it gets windy there.

    Children:

    Parents must bring a hiking child carrier backpack to carry their children <4-years old.

  9. Security Don't take risks

    Better to go with a guide and relax, instead of getting lost in the mountains of Porto Santo. If you fall or feel unwell, it is reassuring to know that the mountain guide activates the emergency system. He/she sends a warning and the location of the group to the local authorities, enabling a quick rescue. All well worth the money for the hike.
