Culture & History

Expand your horizons, Take in the beauty of the best historical locations.

Hotels in Funchal get free pick-up and drop-off. Extra charges may apply for hotels outside Funchal. If you have your car, select that option. You’ll get a confirmation email with meeting point details, a map, and an emergency phone number.

Our vehicle will display a card with the company logo on the windscreen and the group name (if applicable). The driver or Tourist Guide will have a list of all passengers’ names.

Although there are some steps along the way, they are relatively easy to navigate for those who are not disabled. The pace of the tour is leisurely, and there are plenty of opportunities to take a break, sit down, and use the restroom if needed. The tour suits children, but please let us know if you prefer a private booking.

In addition to our tours for mainland travellers, we also provide affordable options for those travelling by cruise ship. You can select from our existing tour packages or create a customised itinerary. Don’t hesitate to contact us to arrange your tour!

Please feel free to reach out to us through our Contact Us page.

Lux Madeira offers group tours, which can also be booked as private tours. Please note that private tours’ rates differ from those for group tours. If you are interested in booking a private tour or have questions about our listed tours, please get in touch with us for further information.

Lux Madeira is unique because our regular tours have no minimum requirements. We will proceed with the tour even if just one person has booked. However, this policy does not apply to our themed tours. The size of the tour group varies depending on the number of bookings received. If you want a more exclusive experience, you can always upgrade to a private tour at a different rate.

Our staff is the backbone of each successful service. We look for people who are not only qualified and experienced but also passionate and love what they do.

If you are pleased with the service, you may tip your driver and tour guide. Tipping is optional and entirely at your discretion.

If you’re planning a trip to Madeira Island, you’ll be happy to know that it’s a great destination to visit all year round. The coastal areas have a mild and temperate climate with no extreme weather conditions, while the mountains can be colder, so bring warm clothes if you plan to visit them. It’s also rainier in the winter months, so pack a raincoat or an umbrella. The average temperature ranges from 18C in the winter to 25C in the summer, and the sea temperature remains consistent throughout the year, between 18C to 22C. This is thanks to the warm Gulf Stream that surrounds the island. For tours, dress comfortably and casually with layers of clothing so you can add or remove clothes depending on the weather. Comfortable walking shoes and an all-weather coat are a good idea, too.

Tours operate rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, your Tourist Guide will modify the tour to spend more time indoors. It’s always a good idea to have an umbrella on hand.
